The 49th Annual Meeting of SEASECS

SEASECS will hold its 49th annual meeting at the Decatur Conference Center attached to the Courtyard by Marriott Atlanta Decatur Downtown/Emory. The theme for this year's meeting is “Legacies for the Future: Eighteenth-Century Studies for Our Times.””

 Special Events planned for SEASECS 2023:

The Keynote Address, “Demanding Entertainment: A Producible Interpretation of Such Things Are,” will be delivered by distinguished SEASECS scholar, Dr. Misty G. Anderson, the James R. Cox Professor in the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, where she currently serves as head of the Department of English and holds courtesy appointments as an Adjunct Professor of Theatre and of Religious Studies. Author of two scholarly monographs, past editor of the journal Restoration: Studies in English Literary History, 1660-1770, co-editor of The Routledge Anthology and Sourcebook of Restoration and Eighteenth-Century Theatre (2017) and The Routledge Anthology of Restoration and Eighteenth-Century Performance (2019),  Dr. Anderson recently published the essay “Inchbald for Our Times,” in The World of Elizabeth Inchbald: Essays on Literature, Culture, and Theatre in the Long Eighteenth Century (Newark: University of Delaware Press, 2022).

A Thursday-evening choral entertainment of eighteenth-century music performed by the music students and faculty of Clayton State University.

A Friday-evening staged reading of Elizabeth Inchbald’s 1789 comedy The Married Man, performed by students from the theatre program at Clayton State University’s Department of Visual and Performing Arts.

Air Travel Information: The Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport is the most convenient airport for travel to Decatur and Metro Atlanta.

Ground Transportation: Direct MARTA train service to downtown Decatur is readily available from the airport. The conference hotel is only a block from the Decatur Station. Information about other ground transportation options from the airport can be found on the airport’s website.
