SEASECS will hold its 48th annual meeting at the Luminary & Co Hotel and Caloosa Sound Convention Center in Ft. Myers, Florida. The theme for this year's meeting is "Oceans Rise, Empires Fall: Tidal Shifts in the Eighteenth Century.” The full CFP is available here.

Special Events planned for SEASECS 2022:

The Keynote Address will be given by Dr. Sherry Johnson, Professor of History and Faculty Associate of the Cuban Research Institute at Florida International University. Dr. Johnson is the author of Climate and Catastrophe in Cuba and the Atlantic World in the Age of Revolution, which won the Gordon K. and Sybil Lewis Prize for Best Book in Caribbean Studies given by the Caribbean Studies Association in 2012. She also authored The Social Transformation of Eighteenth-Century Cuba, four edited collections, and multiple articles on how the history of Cuba and the Caribbean has been impacted by environment and climate change, natural disasters, and illness and epidemics. Johnson is also an Alumni Fellow, Rachel Carson Center for Environment and Society, Munich, Germany, and a research associate with the Historic St. Augustine Research Institute, St. Augustine, FL.

Writing an Essay on Pedagogy – This NPEC-Sponsored Workshop facilitated by Professor Martha F. Bowden will offer guidance on developing an essay on pedagogy for journal publication. Click here for details.

Cooking with Chris – After the success of his virtual lecture in 2021, Christopher Hendricks, co-author of Old Southern Cookery: Mary Randolph's Recipes from America's First Regional Cookbook Adapted for Today's Kitchen, returns with a live show to bring us a new recipe through his entertaining mix of cooking demonstration and food history lesson, with the assistance of the Luminary Chef.
